Guest Guest Posted April 12, 2009 Alexandra, Beautiful girl (self-portrait, perhaps?) - very sharp focus - good skin tones (even though the skin tones are a bit light they work nicely with this overall light tones of the background, dress, eyes and hair - beautiful eyes - nice catch lights - nice idea to match the color of dress, background and eyes - expression works well. Cutting into the head that much demands a tight crop on the bottom - if you want to include the blue on the bottom to have a stopping point for the eyes (which is not a bad idea at all), you really must give her head room to balance the large area on the bottom - even though I really like the skin tone of her chest, it is a bit brighter than her face (this draws attention away from her face - better to burn in her check a little). Nice shot of a lovely girl, Mark Link to comment

alexunu 0 Posted April 12, 2009 hey mark, not a self portrait (unfortunately? :P) the thing i was going for is something like this: you look a woman in the eyes and you tend to visualize the rest of her without actually losing eye contact. you're not really focusing on her upper side of the head while you do that, but your attention might slide down a bit :P i know it's not exactly a classical crop for a portrait but oh well... jerrymat 5 Posted April 15, 2009 Lovely face, beautiful porcelain-like skin tones, faint blue lace, soft blue eyes - how could you improve this? It is a lovely portrait, but I would like to see the top of her head, with its beautiful hair. This would benefit the picture by putting the eyes (the soul of any portrait) into a more comfortable compositional position, instead of being rammed up against the top border. You could move back slightly or zoom back and recrop. If those eyes were approximately a third of the distance from top frame edge to bottom, this image would simply jump at you.
