matthijs 0 Posted April 3, 2009 Great picture. One nitpick, I'd have preferred the man a little more to the left... That said: I like it a lot. Matthijs. Link to comment
acarodp 0 Posted April 5, 2009 Eden, Matthijs, thank you both. The man more on the left... I don't know. As it is now, the man is exactly in the center, as I envisioned him when I saw him coming from the left. The leg position was pure luck, but it works. If the man was more on the left (but you mean still on front of the white building I imagine?) the rigid geometry of the composition would disappear. And this rigidity is what appeals me in the image, it is somewhat distressing and cold... L. Link to comment
matthijs 0 Posted April 5, 2009 Looking at it that way I'd say the man is exactly where he should be. (If you wanted a more pleasant picture however...) What's interesting is the size of the man, he's not that much smaller than the -almost robotic in appearance- buildings. To me that gives the impression that he's almost part of the buildings or "The Machine" in stead of part of humanity... Regards, Matthijs. Link to comment
acarodp 0 Posted April 5, 2009 "Welcome my son, welcome to the machine" as somebody said... :-) Matthijs, I don't know if you have ever been to La Defense in Paris. But the sensation you describe is precisely the one I get every time I go there. It is an extremely interesting place indeed, always a bit disturbing for me... Cheers L. Link to comment
matthijs 0 Posted April 6, 2009 La Defense I have only seen in the distance or as a Metro destination. I'd hazard a guess at David Gilmour for the quote. (I saw them during the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour. Impressive.) By the way, my association would have been with Rage Against the Machine. That goes to show how much (pop)music influences how we think! M. Link to comment
