darrellwhittle 0 Posted December 1, 2002 Two cats, one looking away the other hidden in shadow. Why submit this? Link to comment
erol_ata___nyc__nj 0 Posted December 1, 2002 Since when are cats suposed to look at the camera. The dark shadows were the whole purpose of this shot. It adds a little mysterious feeling to the shot. Both of thse cats are just enjoying the sun coming through the window. Link to comment
darrellwhittle 0 Posted December 2, 2002 Dear Erol I have obviously hit a raw nerve with my previous question, not my intention at all. Your answer here is at least an attempt to explain your rationale for the "mysterious" cats. Your comment on my photo, on the other hand, in response to this is just plain childish and shows a level of insight on par with your cats. Outright tit for tat for some imagined slur, disturbing indeed! Let us put this issue to bed here and know. If my question upset you, i heartily apologise. Thank you in advance. Link to comment
bill_jordan2 0 Posted December 15, 2002 As I am new here and do not yet fully understand the rating system, I will not put a rating on this photo. I have commented in an effort to do my part as a participant.I think I understand the effect you were going for here; a candid shot of the two cats enjoying the sun. Unfortunately I can't see the enjoyment with the lead subject's head in total shadow. A little (visible) expression would have helped a great deal, IMHO. The photo seems a bit soft overall as well, but you may have been going for a soft look.Looking for interesting photo opportunities where most would not see them sometimes yields fantastic results, and is a talent I hope to develop over time. My compliments on your effort here. Link to comment
mmarengo 0 Posted December 20, 2002 SInce you asked for critiques... I understand that you were looking for a "mistery" effect with the shadow, however I am not sure you completely got it. Maybe you could have got a stronger effect if, for example, the eyes of the cat were visible reflecting some indirect light, as only the eyes of cats can do in the shadow. The main subject of the photo is also a bit too centered to be misteriuos; maybe a different composition would have achieved a greater effect. Finally, the second cat in full light kind of distracts... Link to comment
