JimCowan 0 Posted March 26, 2009 Beautiful light, just the right dof makes the petals soft and appealing while focusing attention on the stamens. A very nice image! Link to comment
pfranklin 0 Posted March 26, 2009 After trying too many times to count with different flowers….I think I may have finally accomplished what I wanted to capture. I would like honest feedback as to the lighting, focus, DoF, composure and whatever else you would care to critique. Thank you in advance for your time. Link to comment
dandem 1 Posted March 26, 2009 DOF is great, Pam. Great composition and I like the subtle lighting of the pink. Well done, my friend. Regards, Lawrence. Link to comment
sonneland 0 Posted March 27, 2009 Pamela, first off thank you for your lovely comment of a few days ago. Now on to this image of yours. I usually just scroll down through the images and see what attracts me. Well, this one just jumped out at me, very nice indeed. As to feedback , everyones choices are different, this is yours and how you constructed the image is you. I really like your vision here. To me this image has just about everything just right, the one thing that i think could enhance it even further is back lighting. I only use natural light, so that means the sun. This image would just come alive with a bit of late afternoon sun behind it. Those pinks would just glow, the golds would radiate. By looking at your portfolio i realize you have the skills to pretty much do what ever you like. So all I'm really doing here is sharing my technique with this sort of a flower image with you. Just have a play, put a flower in position with the sun behind it, and watch the dynamics of the flower change as the sun sets. I bet you get excited when you try this wee experiment. All the best............roger Link to comment
jmcconnell2 0 Posted March 27, 2009 Beautiful composition, I notice halo effects in the center, did you over sharpen a bit? Link to comment

pfranklin 0 Posted March 27, 2009 Jim, Thank you for the comment, as always I appreciate your words and look forward to your visits! Lawrence my friend, Thank you for your words, I do appreciate you so very much! Roger, I did wonder if you had checked back and read my words, now I know! Thank you so much for the advice and know that I do appreciate it. This was actually done with natural light from a window behind the flower. I live in the Seattle area so shooting outside (work schedule comes first) in the sun is not always possible as we do have many days of rain! I am hoping that when the tulip fields start to bloom up north that I can put your words to good use! I will let you know what I get! Jim M, Thank you for your critique, did you view larger? I sharpened only once as I downsized to fit on this site. I would appreciate if you looked at this larger because I don’t see it. Let me know please, I am here to learn! Warmest regards, Pamela Link to comment
pfranklin 0 Posted March 27, 2009 Sumon, I am not sure what you did to this image, I can see some subtle differences. Please share with me what you did I am always open to suggestions! Thank you for taking the time to look, I appreciate it. Kaushik, Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate them very much. Koushik, As always I am happy to have you visit. Thank you for your kind words. Warm regards, Pamela Link to comment
sumon_mukherjee 0 Posted March 27, 2009 Pamela, this is really a beautiful composition. I was so attracted by the image that I started playing with it. I felt that Roger's suggestion will be really effective. So I was trying to make a soft back-light in photoshop. I just tried a little colour dodging to make a glow around the center of the image. But the original composition is definitely softer than the second version. I think, Roger is absolutely right in noting that "The image would just come alive " with a back-light from the afternoon sun. Best regards. Link to comment
pfranklin 0 Posted March 27, 2009 Thank you so much for getting back to me with your “version” applied technique. This is what I thought you might have done but I couldn’t enlarge without losing quality. Yours is very nice, a little more color with noticeable lighting changes… and yes mine is softer, both appealing to my eye.…..I am still trying to capture that “picture perfect” image! Oh will that ever happen!!! I very much appreciate your talents and hope you will always feel free to critique…”good and bad” my work, it’s the only way to learn! Warmest regards, Pamela Link to comment
