jasper_rubin 0 Posted February 18, 2001 Lovely image. Doesn't get much more flowery-sunsety than that. Link to comment
andy_graham 0 Posted May 27, 2001 great shot...i dont have one and dont know how to use one...but i think there is a graduated filter that is useful with sunsets..hopefully someone else with more knowledge than i will step up and fill you in..again,great shot, the ratings are an injustice..but as a fellow flower shooter,i'll just say get used to it..somehow mountains and pastures and zoo animals and nude self portraits are more original Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 28, 2001 I think perhaps you could use some fill flash - that way you could cut the overall exposure time of the photo. Link to comment
Robert W. Pillow 19 Posted May 28, 2001 I don't think the sun is completely washed out. The hotspot has tone. I don't know that I would bother with fill flash. However, a graduated neutral density might be worth trying, but you'd need to be careful about placement. Link to comment
roger___3 0 Posted May 28, 2001 I really didn't think the sun was over exposed, but the flowers were a bit under in my book. Still very nice! Don't know if a grad ND would work here or not, but maybe some reflectors? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 28, 2001 This is excellent. There is a sense of intimacy that would be destroyed by trying to balance everything. Link to comment
kit 0 Posted May 28, 2001 I think this photo is nice as it is... but I, being keen on digital manipulation, have had a go at it with my computer... I hope you don't mind... here is one version... Link to comment
kit 0 Posted May 28, 2001 with a lens flare added for dramatic effect. As I say, I hope you don't mind (maybe they'll help you see the picture as you had in you minds eye for 'next time') Link to comment
randman 0 Posted May 28, 2001 I like the original best. The flowers appear softer in that one. very nice effect. Link to comment
markus_arike 0 Posted July 2, 2001 I too prefer the original. Very good composition and execution of image. There does appear to be an issue with lack of contrast, but that will often happen when the sun is so prominent in the frame. As for the ratings, 6's. Wow. I've been getting 3's and 2's for many of my images. Anyway, nice job. Link to comment
james_deboer 0 Posted July 2, 2001 I like my original better too. I'm not a fan of digital manipulation, although I have used it to remove distracting objects (see my Lulu Lake image in the Canoeing Pictures Folder). I'm also not sure how I feel about others tampering with my photos. But thanks for the input. I think the lack of contrast adds to the softness of the scene and reflects the way I actually saw it that late summer afternoon. Link to comment
james_deboer 0 Posted July 6, 2001 I definately have gotten mixed comments on this photo. I happen to like it just as it is (which is most important I suppose). Please let me know what you think. Thank you. Link to comment
kramer 0 Posted July 7, 2001 I think it's just great and it caught my eye immediatly. Link to comment
alex_hawley 0 Posted July 7, 2001 I'd go with the original. A very unique way of viewing the subject. The lighting works to great advantage. Congratulations! Link to comment
richard_lowery 0 Posted July 21, 2001 ---I like it too, James. Why can't people accept the fact that at dusk, the lighting is subtle even when viewed with the eye??? Nature makes perfect compositions ---most time she don't need help!! The challenge is to reproduce it faithfully on the film medium!! Link to comment
michal_hoppe 0 Posted August 8, 2001 I'd like to shoot a picture like that. I really like the tones of the photo (the original). I also like the softness of it. Too bad you don't remember what film you used. Link to comment
kahheng 0 Posted August 28, 2001 I think it's downright rude to digitally alter someone else's work when no request was made to do so. It's simply disrespectful of the photographer's work. "I hope you don't mind buddy!" just doesn't cut it. Link to comment
chjohnson 0 Posted September 1, 2001 This is an excellent execution of a rather technically challening photograph. The light balance between the sky and flowers is perfect and the colors are wonderful. Good work. Link to comment
mehdi_k 0 Posted September 5, 2001 please do not change it. Digital manipulation is ok, only by the photographer! you dont change a painting in the museum, do you? Link to comment
Robert W. Pillow 19 Posted December 10, 2001 This morning I was looking at an old Popular Photography issue featuring 35 mm photographs by David Muench (sp). One of the photos had a similar looking sun in it. I do not believe there is any problem with the sun as I said earlier. This is a nice picture of which Mr. M could be proud. Link to comment
