Ruud, Lawrence - thank you for the compliments. This is a new area of photography for me, but one I have long wanted to get into. I finally have a camera that enables me to get these shots (that lack of digital noise at >1000 ISO is truly empowering!!!).

Thanks for the comments. The feeder hangs in the shade on the western side of the house; the sun was just coming around in the afternoon, and I caught the bird in the right place at the right time. I couldn't see the seed in the beak or the sunlight illuminating the beak when I took the picture; that was a surprise revealed later on the monitor. I was very pleased with that bit of lucky timing! The background is the result of a white automobile and an empty driveway and a dof that blurred them nicely.
