kozure 0 Posted March 22, 2009 An excellent image! I like the vertical lines that are coming from the lights. The one at the bottom left and the one in the upper middle play together very nice. Maybe if there was a stronger vertical light cast in the left part of the frame the image would even be better. Love the colour and tonality! Best regards, Jacek Link to comment
gungajim 75 Posted March 22, 2009 Is this the same fog the has enshrouded the auto industry for the last 50 years!!! I can't quite figure out the rightward tilt of the tall building after it becomes largely consumed by the fog. Was this taken from the Canadian side of the river? Interesting image. gungajim 75 Posted March 22, 2009 I now see that it was taken from Windsor. Thanks for providing that piece of info in the Details. GJ Link to comment
f1_young 0 Posted March 22, 2009 Great capture. The fog certainly serves two purposes here -- visual and conceptual. Link to comment
mcginty 0 Posted March 23, 2009 There's a subtle rainbow transition of the colors that is very beautiful. Great use of balance. The top and bottom blue tones frame the buildings and help hold the image together. I had no idea Detroit looked like that. Great image, Ry Link to comment
AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted March 23, 2009 This reminds me of the way Fuji 64T goes on long exposures. Looks great! Link to comment
iancoxleigh 0 Posted March 23, 2009 Thanks everyone! Jim, thanks for getting the allusion of my title. I'm not sure what you're seeing with the central tower. I have double checked that the verticals are vertical and they are; so, it must an optical illusion because of the lights and the fog. Ryan, thank you the comment on the balance here. That was top of my mind in choosing this composition out of the ones I tried and in the way I processed this. Also, despite what I titled this, it isn't all of Detroit -- this is just GM Place and its surrounds. I'll attach a basically un-processed/un-colour corrected shot I took of the whole city skyline. I rejected the composition as too unfocussed when I decided to post this frame instead. Aaron, I was worried that removing so much of the tungsten orange would make this look too surreal. Its good to know that this is basically what a tungsten balanced film would look like anyways. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 26, 2009 Though not Emerald Green, my first thought was Oz. I got that "beam me up, Scotty" feeling from the tallest building, as if it were about to take off. I find that asymmetrical balance (having the light only on the lower right) is often more energetic than more symmetrical balance. It's a cityscape that moves with light, color, and atmosphere. iancoxleigh 0 Posted March 30, 2009 Frode, Fred, thanks. I too like that sole light in the lower right. I feel that it -- combined with the implied motion of the blurred water -- help keep this from being too stiff. Link to comment
