Polarizer + Tripod. In Paintshop, I increased the saturation a little. The slide itself is brilliant from itself due to the rgeat early morning light.

This is a great "textbook" photo. In this instance the photographer has skillfully identified an appealing image but I find this so linear that it actually lacks feeling. The great test of these images for me is whether I would want them on my wall. The answer is no because beyond the color and lines I'm not sure I feel much else. There is a lack of communal harmony among the elements - they feel segmented and aloof.

On one other point I'm a little disappointed that the images' author felt that after having Velvia film, a polarizer, and early morning light that there would be a need to saturate this further in Paintshop. It just seems like overkill.

Doug, I agree in principle with the concern about over saturated images, but he says 'slightly, and I take him at his word. I think you do need the strong red to balance the green. The straight lines do have the effect of speeding up the eye's movement to the point of convergence. but they also accentuate the slight curve in the tree. If the tree was less attractive and less visually important than it is, I'd see a problem.

The photo would be excellent even if colours were a bit less saturated. It's the mood of the fog and the details in the branch that makes it, IMO, together with the green-red contrast.

This is a fine composition. The colors are raised way beyond the relm of Velvia and indeed resemble a Walt Disney cartoon. They detract from the wonderful composition. Is every one on PN now so color blind we think this is 'normal'? Included is the same scene rendered in a platinum type B&W tone. I for one think it is lovely. Perhaps others do as well.

This topic may not belong here... but has anyone studied people's response to colour? I just love colour.. but I'm wondering is this like a child's like of candy... ie an immature response to art (I'm new to photography, and I've always been a techie, not an artist, but I'm working on that:)

There is something about Jaap's photos that I find amazing... I think it's the colour and the symmetry. I just *love* them.
