Skypath 5
I have been interested in skypaths for a couple of years now, ever since I first noticed them, and this is one of hundreds of images taken in a wonderful beech avenue on my property in Cornwall, UK. The trees are closely planted and the sky begins to appear as pathways between them as soon as fall begins, but they look at their best when fall is complete. My guess is that the rubbing of branch tips in the wind inhibits further woody growth but permits the more flexible foliage. The skypaths appear in those places formerly occupied by leaves. I desaturated and marginally strengthened contrast in Photoshop taking care not to lose branch tips, so the image is a pretty natural representation of reality as it appeared to me. What one might read into the pathways is altogether a different matter...I am sometimes tempted to interpret them as initial letters or esoteric symbols!
