First of all, let's say that I assume this to be an HDR image. If not, then I am an old ass and what follows is, more or less, meaningless. Having said that, may I spoil the unanimous chorus of approval and respectfully say that I am not fully convinced of the use of HDR in nature photos? If this place is the Malpais in Tenerife (Canary Islands), then I assume the real colors of the rocks are black for lava and red for iron. Here, they turn into grey-brown and ochre-yellow. Of course, a re-interpretation of a scene is perfectly legitimate in photography, but are we sure that this really improves over the real thing? May I advance the suggestion that HDR images have such an impact only because we are relatively unaccostomed to them, and that the nine days wonder will fade as the practice spreads through the photographic community? (a bit like what has happened with overly saturated photos, so unfortunately common a few years ago and now outdated). Needless to say, this is just my opinion, and not so firm as to that, so please take it just as a contribution to discussion - of course this is a good image in any case.
