Please View Large. This one is an experiment with focus - opened up the aperture to

reduce dof to achieve a soft effect. I liked the trio of spring crocus with the fallen oak

leaf trapped beside them and decided to experiment with them. What do you think;

does it work? All comments/critiques appreciated.

Very good control of the focus and composition, very fine colors! (7/7 anon.)

Thank you for your nice comment on my photo :-)

Steven-

Good heavens, you do not sound mean at all! You ask a good question, which I kind of answered in my "introductory comments." The answer is, yes, I intended (hoped) to achieve a soft look with this photo. I was experimenting with depth of field shooting macro with an aperture of 5.6 to give me a very narrow dof (macro is usually shot at f/18 - f/22 or higher to maximize the dof). I was focusing on a point about 1/3 of the way up the line of flowers, which happens to be about where the petals that are sharp. Normally I am a fanatic about making images pretty much tack sharp, but I decided it was time to explore a more artistic approach with the camera and create "special effects" without post processing. Spring flowers were the perfect opportunity to try something new. It worked out pretty well, so I'll try more as the season progresses. Like I said, it was an experiment, and it turned out pretty successfully.

You have a good eye ! The old oak leaf adds interest to this shot.

Together with soft and delicate colours and creative use of DOF, this

is just a beautiful image of the crocus`

Kind regards, Anne & Runar :-)
