As a photographer in London it's hard not to try to 'do' this scene

sometime or many times. I'd love to know what you feel about this effort.

Mike

Very nice shot overall. Excellent compostion and beautifully rich tones in the sky, dome and tower steeple. The only point I would have minor reservations about is the south facades, especially of the tower, I feel are slightly blown.

Mike, I looked at the image, then read Paul's comment which about summarized my thoughts. I think the tower appears overexposed because the remaining image is bright which when toned down a bit, will give the tower a "reason" to be brighter - it's under diffused sunlight whereas the foreground is under shadows.

Made by creating a b/w layer and blended with original in Multiply mode.

To my eye, the highlights in the original were fine, and I prefer its luminosity to the suggested alternative. I think Mike has nicely caught one of those moments on a stormy day when a shaft of sunlight finds its way through the clouds. I like the contrast between on the one hand the building, bathed in light, and on the other the threatening clouds and muted (shadowy) tones of the foreground.

Very well done. I like the color of the sky and the contrast of the ground green. I am not sure if i like Chang's modification... perhaps the original appears better to my taste. Best reagrds.

Mike, it is a very nice construction. I like the angle, the sky, the FG. I do think it is a little bright , but imo Michael's version looks too dark, and some of the bottom FG details have lost their beauty, so something in between will be nice I think. I did use lightness/contrast. added + 26 points contrast, reduced -20 points lightness. so it is a very small change . what do you think?

Coming back after a few days, I see my "alteration" was just awful although it seemed appropriate at the time. The thing about this type of work is that Mike was there, and all we have to go on is his record and interpretation which we attempt to embellish, many times unsuccessfully as I have done above.

Jayanti's 'take' on the image is where I tend to lean to. I like it the way it is, great composition and use of light....congrats, fine photo!
