"Spring Peace"

Gracias Javier and Roberto! Thank you Larry and Janusz. Larry, it can be a matter of perspective I guess. I feel lucky to be in a place with photo opps such as this. I will never forget, however, when we first moved here. I was told by one of the Bakersfield residents "welcome to the s**thole of California". He had a rather negative opinion of this area and I thought he might be right. It was hot and dusty and barren. Being optimistic and opportunistic can change your attitude. I have slowly cultivated the immediate region for wonderful compositions and now I never want to leave, but I know in time I will. While Bakersfield has some major drawbacks, you have to look past the negatives in order to see the benefits.

I too like the simplicity of this composition. Its naturalness (feeling un-forced) matches the simple, wonderous beauty of this uncomplicated and open landscape.

Thank you Ian and Emma. While the remainder of the country is still in the throes of winter, we are experiencing a vibrant, verdant early spring.

Excellent shot. a nice shot of nice scene. it has good composition and expos by beauty colors. just i think it's better by more contrast. well done

Thanks Hamed! You know, ever since I posted this, I have been thinking this could use a moderate curve to add some punch. I usually process for slightly flat because they print punchier, which is my ultimate intention for viewing. Sometimes I forget to add a curve before posting to give a better web appearance, but this image has been well received, so I left it alone. Your version might be more contrast than what I had in mind, but I gratefully acknowledge your suggestion.

Great Shot. This area is blooming earlier than I would have thought. I would have figured April. I wish I could find the time to get out there.

Simply put, this is just perfect! I too really appreciate the sheer simplicity of the composition; it allows the viewer to revel in the magic light and colors. Well done! Cheers! Chris

Thanks Sean and Chris. I just printed this and framed it today, print size of 15"X22" inside a 22X28 frame. Came out better than I had hoped. One of those rare moments when light, shape and color all come together. I am wondering when Ton will be along to remove the wind beneath my wings!

Mark, I just found a map and would like to come down here if it isn't too late. It's been quite cool and wet so I might get lucky. I also recommend hwy 58 just north. I was there in 2005 after the superwet winter and the wildflowers were stunning. Anyway, thanks for sharing. This is wonderful.

Simply put, this has to rank up there as one of my favorites of yours. Your colors came off a palette and the composition is out of sight. I'm glad you printed it because it should be viewed outside the electronic medium. Super job Mark! Of course, I added it to my favorites...RAY

Mark, I was amazed that by late March, this meadow and the surrounding hills have turned substantially brown and dry! This is a wonderful image and I am sure that the large framed print you made looks fantastic. It's inspirational.

I want to move to California so I could just see this with my own eyes..but since that is not a reality this is the next best thing to being there...gorgeous!!!
