ray.koushik 0 Posted February 21, 2009 Very nice composition...i like the idea of leaving ample space on left...this added to the fact that he's looking backwards brings out a feeling of a long voyage...পিছুটান! compliments -koushik Link to comment
blue-olympus 0 Posted February 21, 2009 Beautiful scene with the sun's rays enhancing the ripples. This doesn't look safe to me but they must know what they are doing:-))....Regards Link to comment

life-in-perspective 0 Posted February 21, 2009 Early morning action. The sunlight looks refreshing. Very nice capture Amalda. AND that photo in my gallery is surely no wake up call for a young creative guy like you. Best regards to my young friend. Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted February 21, 2009 Koushik, the fisherman is watching whether his comrade is able to board the catamaran. There is no 'pichutan' for them; only joar/bhatar tan:-) Many thanks for your feedback. Keith, quite safe. Here is a close-up of these catamarans. No chance of sinking and drowning. Many thanks for your visit and feedback. Pamela, you need not be apprehensive. These are in use in the southern coast of Tamil Nadu, India. Catamarans were used by the ancient Tamil Chola dynasty as early as the 5th century AD for moving their fleets to invade such Southeast Asian regions as Burma, Indonesia and Malaysia. These have been used for millennium in Oceania, where Polynesian catamarans and outrigger canoes allowed seafaring Polynesians to settle the world's most far-flung islands. It is a real fun to sail in these catamarans, but my wife does not allow me to board. She too feels it is unsafe. Many thanks for your comment Sonali, that is quite a compliment for an old man like me:-) Many thanks for your encouraging comment. Link to comment

jeffl7 0 Posted February 22, 2009 I like the gold on the water. You'd have to have a lot of faith to board such a skiff. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted February 22, 2009 I can't believe that they would take this craft out into the sea. But people develop different skills and adjust their approaches according to their own realities and the exigencies of life. In a way we really are an adaptable species. Thanks again for awakening us to the diversity of the world. Link to comment

amrit_chatterjee 0 Posted February 22, 2009 I am also awestruck like Jack about the efficacy of such sailing vessels on a choppy sea. But the fishermen know their craft by heredity hence are very confident. There is a popular Poem by Sarojini Naidu "The Coromandel Fishers" which describes their lives and trials. Great take and again wonderful use of the light conditions. Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted February 22, 2009 Thank you very much for your appreciation of the image, catamaran and courage of the fishermen . Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted February 23, 2009 It is an interesting way of life. The waves are well accentuated by the back light. I think that a bit of levels adjustments will help give more punch to the light nuances. I hope you don't mind my trying..;-)) Link to comment
