Late fall is a special time on the Chesapeake Bay; the Canada Geese have mostly

gone south already, leaving an eerie stillness in their wake. The light is low; fall colors

are muted. It is a serene, peaceful pause in the seasonal cycle that I tried to capture in

this understated photo. Comments/suggestions welcomed. Thank you for looking.

I like the simplicity of your composition. The expanse of sky has a gentle gradation of tones which help to communicate atmosphere, one can sense the stillness as nature prepares to sleep.

Sandra, your description of the place and what you wanted to express in the photograph are very helpful and really influence how I view your photograph. I honestly think that every photograph posted for critique should have a similar introduction, but most of those posting (myself included) won't take the time. I've said many times that a viewer can't do an adequate job of providing ratings or critiques without knowing the intentions of the photograph. I can understand and appreciate this photograph so much more (especially the amount of empty space you've given to the sky) because you told me your intentions.

Thank you, Stephen for your comments. It is nice to know that a few extra moments taken during the posting process were helpful to someone. It is easy to appreciate any art form from our own individual sensory and intellectual perspectives. However, context is so important to understanding any art form from the creator's point. I believe that full appreciation requires both aspects. Fortunately I was lucky enough to retire a few years early and have the time to devote to my interests. I don't need to hurry through the posting or critiquing processes. : )
