adamkis 1 Posted February 5, 2014 Beautiful picture, Clayton. But I am disturbed by the shadows. I can't tell which direction the sun is coming from! The crest of the dune would suggest that the sun is coming from the right, and the shadows in the small ripples in the foreground are consistent with that. But the shadows from the bushes go in both directions -- left and right! How do you explain that?! Link to comment
clayton_m 4 Posted February 5, 2014 Adam, interesting observation. I had to think about it for a bit and I'm not sure I even have the right answer. The sun is definitely coming from the right. The only explanation I can think of for shadows to the right of the shrubs is a raised ridge of sand on the leeward (right side) of the bushes. That would explain why it's darker than the shadow from the bush itself. In other words, the bush shadow only partially filters the light when compared with the sand ridge. Does that sound plausible? I'm pretty sure that's it. I always knew this place was magical! Cheers, -Clayton Link to comment
