It is a beautiful image. I like the tones and the composition. The dark, brooding clouds are great. Nicely done. Dan

Composition, textures, slow shutter speed, tones are great actors in the very good performance of this image. Beautiful!... Best regards.

Beautiful! I like the contrasts, the dramatic sky and the softening effect (calming) of the water, the range of tones and foreground detail.

Stunning James, I love the tones and textures of the rocks. Cracking composition. if it were mine I'd print it and hang it on the wall.

cheers,

Ben

Well, you've captured the mood, however I can guess that it felt a bit colder there than what you perceive from looking at the photo ;) not so smooth and calm I presume. A great photograph though! A bit too dark in the 1/5 upper section I think. North Norway (incl Lofoten) is really an eldorado for nature and landscape photography. Do you live there by the way, or did you go there for holiday? I used to live in Tromso for two years (05-06) and it was great! --Oistein

Oistein,

Not a resident of the Lofoten Islands sadly - I spent October and November 2007 driving up through Norway, two weeks in the Islands, then back south. The Weather was pretty impossible, I had nine days continuous of rain here! Looks like we've been a few other similar places too:

Awesome place that - I went up the mountain to the left of both of our pictures, and it was hell - late October, and pretty crazy conditions, but worth it at the top:

Great stuff from you too - recognised the POTY entry straight away - I must admit I assumed you were referring to the American film, which is pretty dire. I will have to check out your version, sounds far better.

Cheers for the feedback - normally I'd agree about the top 1/5th but here it is no more than the reality of the scene, so I've left it purposely dark. The effects of a ND filter and Northern Storm-system combined... ;-)

All the best,

James

Simply splendid Love the fg details and textures. THe mood is wonderful. The top is slightly too dark imo, but contributes effectively to the overall mood, so I am a bit torn on that one. Fantastic work anyhow.
