dionysos 0 Posted January 11, 2009 Very good portrait. The eyes are the most important point of the photo. Congrats. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted January 12, 2009 Not much I can add to the fine critiques above. The image stands alone well or, depending on one's preferences, could be cropped a number of ways to emphasize those great eyes. Example: cropping out half her hair & above would place her eyes about 1\3 from the top, a stronger position in the frame in my opinion. I also like the diagonal formed by the tilt of her head. Less static that way. Since I also like B&W portraits I'm thinking this would open up another option for you. Best, LM. Link to comment
yannik_hay 1 Posted January 21, 2009 A beautiful portrait, Iftikhar. Perfect eye contact, deep stare. Lovely in pink. I also noticed the uneven colour on the hair. As suggested above, I would also go with the crop on the head, in the lower middle of the black hair and a little on the left hand side. Very well done. Cheers! Link to comment

clivefox 1 Posted May 15, 2009 Great portrait, the framing perfect. My only comment would be that you did not focus on the eyes. doing so would soften her skin texture. never the less a wonderful image. Clive Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 15, 2009 Iftikhar, Her eyes are well focused (especially her left eye). I would make sure your depth of field, at a minimum, is deep enough to put both of her eyes in critical focus. Your composition is very good, but when you are in this close I like to have the eyes above the horizontal center of the photograph. If you wanted to be this close, I would crop into her hair a little to raise her eyes. You could, of course, just back off a little and reposition her for better composition. There are some white dots in her hair that may just be bits of white hair showing through her dark hair. I think I would remove those and perhaps touch up any white hairs she has (I would bet she would like that). There are also some dark hairs going across the pink shawl near her left eye (I will call it a shawl - I do not know the correct term). I would remove those hairs, also. I noticed the colors in her hair that were mentioned by someone else. I also see pink on her face and in the whites of her eyes. This is caused by light reflecting off of her pink shawl. This should be removed. Being this close to her eyes, I see reflections of the room. This is a little distracting to me. You have thrown the background nicely out of focus, but the brown stripe to her left is distracting to me. When I look at a portrait I don't like anything that pulls my attention away from the subject. When you are this close every little imperfection is magnified and becomes more obvious and important. I think you should soften her face a little. This would smooth out her complexion and the lines under her eyes. Her eyebrows need to be trimmed and shaped. She needs to make sure she separates her eyelashes when applying mascara. Her eyeliner seems just a bit heavy. She has a blue/green eyeshadow on that doesn't really show much because her eyes are so wide open. My eye keeps going to that bit of color above her left eye. I can't decide if it distracting enough to do something about it or not? I hope I have given you some ideas to think about. Nice portrait, Mark Link to comment
