I've been canoeing on this very lake! Looking at your photo reminds me so much of the tranquility and solitude of the Boundary Waters area. I love the lighting, and the positioning of the subject makes me want to be with him, to see what lies just ahead of him. One of the best BWCA photos I have seen lately! Thanks for sharing it!

--going away or coming---closer exam of "large' photo reveals wake pattern that would suggest that. Sure takes a lot of looking to analyze all the beauty in this shot!! Well done/

This is a wonderful photograph that, to me, looks like a painting. The lighting is just right, the mood is there, everything is nearly perfect. Almost too good to be real!

really nice photo. large parts of it are completely black, though. I'm guessing this is partly due to scanning it in - does the original look like this? If so, you might have been able to benefit from recomposing so that the sun's reflection wasn't in the image. Then you could expose it for a little longer and bring out the details in the background without the sun's reflection washing out. Not sure how well that would work, and it's the type of thing that's a lot easier to think of after the fact rather than behind the camera. Beautiful shot regardless. Makes me wish I could dump my college student schedule and start waking up at 5am.

Nice pic. You have some really inspired stuff in your portfolio. I love the prairie flowers at sunset and the Lulu lake photo. Keep shooting.

This image captures so many aspects of canoeing in the BWCAW, that I cannot begin to describe. Wonderful job of capturing a moment. Congrats on the lighting and light steam coming off the lake.
