nhut-nguyen 0 Posted December 31, 2008 A very nice shot of a bald eagle Dimitare, I would like the see more detail under the wings. 6/6 anon. Link to comment
dimitaretch 0 Posted December 31, 2008 Thank you Sinh! That's is with my new Canon 400mm f5.6. :) I appreciate your and Monte's help in making the decision for this purchase! Merry Christmas and Happy New 2009! Regards, Dimitare Link to comment
knobby6 1 Posted December 31, 2008 I would like to see more wing detail too, but unfortunately cameras don't have the dynamic range that our eyes have. Overcast day might render more detail on wings without blowing out the whites(less dynamic range). Still a nice shot and glad you like your lens. Link to comment
dwoel 0 Posted December 31, 2008 Very nice shot Dimitare. It shows good in flight panning technique on your part. It's always a challenge with underwing lighting (especially a dark bird). Monte is right (as always) about the benefit of an overcast day. Congratulations on the lens. I almost wish I had gotten the 400 prime instead of the 100-400 zoom. I'm told the prime is sharper wide open and also focuses faster for birds in flight. Link to comment
kathyb 72 Posted December 31, 2008 Dimitare, I just purchased a Pentax DA 55-300 mm lens. I love it but I envy your 400mm lens. It is too expensive for my budget. I look forward to seeing more shots with your new lens. Happy New Year! Link to comment

dimitaretch 0 Posted January 3, 2009 Thank you Monte! Thank you David! I specifically planed to get the images on a sunny day because my new lens is little slow – 5.6. The light for this shot was little harsh – I took the photo around noon. This is why it was little difficult to deal with the contrasting withes and blacks – I did some PS adjustments – curves and levels. The rest of the photos were taken very early next morning and are much better, evenly lit. Hi Kathy, I don’t know much about the DA 55-300mm other than it has good reviews on the web and people seems to like it – so congratulations. All my equipment is Canon and I never had a chance to shoot with Pentax. I am very happy with the 400mm which performs very fabulous when there is enough light. I wish you that the new 2009 will bring you the desired upgrade – 400mm or even 500mm!!! :) As Monte and Sinh mentioned some time back the length can never be enough when it comes to bird photography. Thank you Sumon! Thank you Stoil! Link to comment
