I'm particularly interested in thoughts re: this image vs. the

original. The attempt was to create something that was closer to

illustration. The direct gaze and pure smile were so engaging, I

wanted an image that would draw the viewer in. Or am I just kidding

myself?

You're not kidding yourself--she has a great smile and a beautiful gaze. That said, I prefer the more natural tones in the original. The hoodie and the thing with the bright colors behind her left ear are a bit distracting so maybe a closer crop to eliminate those might help draw the viewer in.
