I think this is a good photo. I especially liked the variations in the green next to the butterfly. I have only taken a few butterfly photos myself; but, I can tell you that of those, the ones that were liked most were the ones that featured the face, and especially the eyes and mouth of the butterfly. When people see the face of the insect, they can be a little more interested. That would be my only "to improve" suggestion, critique-wise. So, maybe an accompanying photo with a more frontal view of the butterfly. Good edges; I see sharpness. Also, sometimes there will be a little glare off of the scales of butterflies; I see that problem was avoided here, so good work with the lighting angles. I suspect, but do not know, that the photo may be a little saturated; if it is, I would suggest keeping the saturation modifications +/- 25% of the original. Good use of selective focus to isolate the subject. Maybe a shift in camera position to the left could have brought the darker antennae against the lighter green background; again, it's difficult to catch up with butterflies at all, so not a real deal-breaker there. Overall, good work. J.

Thanks John for your imput. I agree with you that it is usually nice to see the insects face but there was no way to get around to the other side of this butterfly...damn it! The adjustments I made to this photo was cropping it, upping the contrast and lowering the brightness which does make the butterfly look more orange. I can't figure out how to post a picture of the original thoughout this comment, I have seen other people do this...I will have to read up on what to do. I appreciated your thoughtful comments and will take them onboard. Cheers, Lisa.
