i am new to birds in flight, but love it.

how is my composition, and DOF?

any tips for cam settings or types of lenses which are best?

does the rock help or hurt?...i thought it helped.

Some great action you captured here. For composition I would try to have the subjects a little further left in the frame, clipped wings are no no's in most bird images. Looks to me like you nailed the settings as this is very sharp and well exposed, especially the whites. IMO the rock takes away from the image, that is a tatse thing though, not a knock on the shot.

This is a moment captured in a fraction of a second which does not allow for lengthy contemplation about composition. One way to solve that is to zoom back a little to allow you the room to crop after wards.
