thadley 15 Posted December 19, 2008 This image has been cropped and then I used Photoshop levels command to further darken the areas that were already dark and wonder if I have gone too far with that. Your comments would be appreciated. For what it is worth I had this up for ratings and the anons had it pegged 3/3s and 4/3s (I personally thought it a bit drastic) without comments so perhaps they are telling me that I went too far with the 'darkening'. My thinking was that I liked the white aspects of the image (almost circular) and the attractive dessert. Link to comment
marleft 0 Posted December 21, 2008 Tony, the black background heightens and drives the viewer's attention to the foreground, so it is O.K. with it. I use it myself very often, or I am driving completely out of focus the background, for the same reason. If your downraters have problem with it, it is very simple to give their names and express their ideas to you. It should be marvelous to do so and very very acceptable. So until then, don't try to explain their ratings. A very tasty composition, suitable for these Christmas days ! For me this photo deserves 6/6 rating. Merry Christmas and a happy new year 2009 ! thadley 15 Posted December 21, 2008 Thank you very much for your constructive comment which is highly appreciated. Too much has been said about the 'low-ball' anon raters - so as someone has said it is a tax some of us have to pay. Have a blessed and Merry Christmas Link to comment
blue-olympus 0 Posted December 21, 2008 I think this is a clever shot, very well seen by you. The contrast and clarity go without saying...Happy Xmas and New Year to you....Regards Keith Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted December 22, 2008 Looks tasty to me! Seriously, the darkened areas work well to keep all attention on the subject(s). I might would have even lowered the light values on the tablecloth also; not blackened out, but toned down slightly. Regardless, a well produced image... Mike Link to comment

katzpjs 50 Posted December 24, 2008 I don't think you went too far in the editing and screw the anons who can't count past 3. They are simple minded and not to be trusted. I love your cropping of the shot and I myself would probably even have cropped off a bit more of the top and the bottom. I love the shot, but I suspect it would not work in b&w because of the tasty colors of the deserts. Nice work! Link to comment

katzpjs 50 Posted December 24, 2008 I like the newer crop because it really concentrates on all the hands. A great shot Tony, a real keeper. Link to comment
