marsh ruler!- Masai Mara N.R. - Kenya

Anybody who has seen in the past the famous BBC "Big Cat's Diary"

TV series with Jonathan Scott, Simon King and Saba Douglas Hamilton

will certainly remember that the two starring lion prides were...the marsh

pride and the ridge pride.

This male lion is no ordinary lion! He is the ruler and dominant male of

the marsh pride, probably the strongest and most successful lion pride

in the whole Masai Mara. By the time I took this shot (late August 2008)

this pride numbered 25 individuals, among them 3 adult males, 10

females and about 12 cubs of various ages. Beeing the alpha male in

such a competetive and large pride means power, personality, character

and beauty! I hope my shot will prove a testimony to all these!! Thank
