triskelphotography 1 Posted November 22, 2008 I really like the minimalist quality of this piece. I like the great colors and the simplicity. Nice work. Link to comment
mikestacey 0 Posted November 23, 2008 I like the dissection of the frame with the lines Bill, it sets up a pleasing structure. I just wonder if the colour contrasts were greater between the layers whether the geometric qualities might be better appreciated. By the way, I want your camera. Have been taking many images looking straight out to sea lately, and the larger the camera for this kind of work the better. Link to comment
billkantor 0 Posted November 24, 2008 Hi Mike, Thanks for the comment. This interpretation is a bit flat (as was the post-sunset light). I took your suggestion about the contrasts among the layers and came up with the attached. Feel free to attempt and post your own interpretation. Best, Bill Link to comment
mikestacey 0 Posted November 24, 2008 Bill, my interpretation is purely based on colour preferences. The composition, aesthetics and "feel" you have created with the graphics of the image is, for me, really appealing. So my view is bent toward my eye for colour which may well be aligned with the prevalent colour of our local coastline here in NSW Australia. A fine shot either way. My version has some noise and artefacts in certain areas but I'm sure that a raw scan from an 8 x 10 piece of Velvia would tolerate a fair amount of "work". Link to comment
billkantor 0 Posted November 24, 2008 Hi Mike, Thanks for the interpretation. It is good food for thought. Yes, sand is not magenta here. I try to stay reasonably faithful to the chrome which does have the magenta cast to it (partly, I suspect, the effect of a long exposure with Velvia and partly because it was that time of day) which you corrected. With Velvia, it is always a balancing act--whether to be faithful to the chrome or our expectations of normalcy. I've been playing with this one a bit and think that the correct interpretation lies somewhere between the two extremes. I'll keep at it. Thanks for the comments. Cheers, Bill Link to comment
