Spot metered the brightest cloud and placed it on zone VI. Used the polariser to blacken the sky for dramatic effect.

IMO the color is way over the top here.

Even Velvia with a polarizer underexposed 1/2 f-stop is not this hot. I feel this would be much improved and far more believable with the saturation turned down a bit.

Miles is correct - the colours are over the top and unbelievable: they're not meant to be real. The image is not a record of some clouds, but an artistic (I hope) impression of what I was feeling at the time. Who would be challenged by white fluffy clouds in a blue sky? For me, there is interest in this image which would not be generated by a simple record shot.

well said ! I like your "old fashionned" way of practicing photography. So many people take snapshots and try to convert them to artwork with photoshop nowadays...

Of course the colors are over the top, but that's what makes it interesting (ah, good old velvia, still very efficient to make everything look like a cartoon !). Well, the subject itself isn't extraordinary interesting but it is an excellent shot from the technical point of view.

Who cares about the shot being beliavable. The surreal effect is what makes it special. "Real" clouds are dull.

Congratulations for the achievement.

No, it's actually quite good, although hardly realistic. Although I don't agree that real clouds are boring, they are rarely dramatic.

Thanks for clouds and lightning photos. Everybody seems to be looking at sidewalks these days.

Places we can't go are sometimes more fun to visit. This is obviously a fantastical depiction of that type of journey, and would not be nearly as interesting as plain white puffy clouds. Nice Job!
