Pilgerruh is an old cemetery, the last burial being in 1860. It does not appear on any map and very few know of its existence. It is at the end of a long, steep, uphill road that has been closed for many years. It is reputed to be haunted, but actually, I found it to be quite a pleasant spot. It is the final resting place of the pioneering spirits of the Comstocks, Hathaways, Baldwins, Mann, and Moses families. Others are there but the markers are too worn to read.

This is an infrared photograph using a visibly opaque 89b filter.

Walter, I like how you've arranged the headstones, parallel to the tree line converging with the nice clouds. Your film choice has really produced some nice contrast overall. Did you process this film yourself? I’ve thought about shooting some Infrared, but haven’t much experience with the developing, nor do I have any filters, which may be needed. Excellent - Sean

yes, the development was done at home: 8 minutes in D76 (stock strength) at 68F. This is Efke/Maco 820 IR film and it is a real bear to get it onto the developing reel because it is very curly. I think it has an Estar base. It is hard to scan because of that, too.

The emulsion is rated at ISO 100 for visible wavelengths (no filter) but if you want to record using just IR you must use a filter. I first tried an 87 but the exposure was very long. An 89B filter works very well, which is what I used here. With the filter the film must be rated at ISO 1.5 or so. I set my hand held meter at ISO1.5 and the above was the result.

There is not much of the anticipated "wood effect" in this image. I was hoping for lighter foliage. But with IR one can never be certain of how the image will come out. I have a couple of frames that I shot in a different direction, off to my left here, and the wood effect was quite pronounced. Regards.

Hi Jeff. I got a couple of close-ups of the more readable markers. One was unfortunately defaced with satanic scribbles. At the time I was thinking the same thought, that this is a part of history that will be lost. I intend to go back and do a more thorough recording. Regards.

Well, Jim, I can't tell you. I know one of your specialties is photographing this genre. If I told you where this was located you would go there and, true to form, show off and do a better job than I did. So, I can't (won't) tell you. It's a secret.
