dwaugh 0 Posted November 13, 2008 Taken on my recent vacation and day trip to Bodie. I'm trying B&W on some of my shots now and then to see how they turn out. How do you like this one? Link to comment
dougbrill 0 Posted November 14, 2008 Bodie is great for photography. Unfortunately the sky is usually a perfect clear blue which is mostly uninteresting in B&W. Your image looks a little overexposed on the bottom, at least on my screen. How did you convert to B&W? Are you using the channel mixer in PS? You might want to try to reduce the reds and increase the blues for a more pleasing tonality. My comments are meant to be constructive. if you don't find them so please let me know and I will gladly remove it. Link to comment
dwaugh 0 Posted November 14, 2008 It does look a bit overexposed on this monitor too. I edited on a different computer, so it may have been slightly darker on that one. Before I converted I actually increased the reds because overall I like how that looks. I'll try increasing blue, though, and see how that looks. Thanks for the detailed critique.EDIT: I have edited it, and I'll post it into the gallery for critique tomorrow, so if you want to see the better version, look for it or find it in my portfolio. yannik_hay 1 Posted November 15, 2008 Hello David, I like very much the old house and your pov. It is also overexposed on my screen. Turning to B/W images is hard to achieve in digital. The best will always be b/w films. And working in each channel helps a lot to make more dynamic b/w digital photos. Good learning process! Cheers! ps: looking at your second version, you did well. The only thing is the perfect blue sky that will always still be too plain in b/w. I would suggest to crop the sky nearer to the house. Link to comment
