The Three Brothers II

stevesieren

This was my second attemtp trying to capture this winter scene. This was taken during last years winter season. On my first attempt I arrived a little later and missed any color in the sky. Also, there wasn't any footprints at all. This is a heavily photographed beach in winter now and I reccommend timing it during the week just after a storm for the lack of footprints. The reason I mention footprints is because normally I would of included the shoreline but I didn't want to include the unwanted footprints. The sky closed up shortly afterwards and never opened again that day.

This was a tough one to pull off. I couldn't place the shoreline in the

bottom left so this what I managed to pull off. I kind of like the

symmetry verticals on the edges.

It is a fine photograph, the composition is OK even if you could not include more (had you not told us, we would not know). The light is perfect. It is good that the ice breaks the reflection, it is more interesting than a completely 50/50 image would be (IMO). Best regards. Peter

Goes to show how ridiculous and meaningless this darn rating system is...I hope you don't take it personally, cuz this is one sweet shot!

I really like the strong line from the cloud/sky intersection reflection going directly to the corner. It almost seems that the leftmost tree's reflection is pointing to call attention to the endpoint of this strong diagonal. I think the footprints may have done you a favor & pushed you to a stronger / more interesting composition. Very nice work!

I am gobsmacked, my friend! This is one of your best landscapes; and arguably one of the best landscapes I've seen on PN in a long, long time. Superb work; both in composition and exposure. Look at your tonal range; call me crazy, but I surmise that this might make a helluva black and white too. Well done, my fellow Californian! Cheers! Chris

Great, great shot starting from the composition and going on with the light that is super.

Perfect reflections thanks to the quiet of wind.

Looking at the picture, seems to feel the cold atmosphere of winter!
