Palouse

So many buttes that they appear to disappear into the horizon..and

indeed they do...In this picture one can get a real good idea of just

how large these buttes are...consider this...The tiny winding line is

a fence. I have stood next to that fence and it is about 5 feet

high...Now think of that as you look upwards toward the top of the

butte! And from the top, one can see dozens more surrounding this

one...some with grasses and some with feed...and some with weed...and

some with basalt..slowly then dropping into the Channeled Scablands.

It is an amazing site! to see this an know that ancient times people

lived here...they never felt they owned it, but there were just

caretakers in the oral traditions..
