I'm going to assume that this is a live model, holding some sort of diffusing disc (my guess is a glass table-top?). Let me start by saying that I love the concept and the fluid quality of light presented here. A few observations present themselves:

First, the light on the chest of the model loses the stark, clearly defined definition that makes the rest of the outline work (but I have no suggestion on how to avoid it.);

Second, the lamp-post behind the disc, combined with the legs-together stance of the model, makes it look like the right leg is on the other side of the disc, thereby cutting the model in two in a sort of disturbing optical illusion.

A minor nitpick is the lack of reflections in the lower leg - this complete shadow works for the arms, but the rest of the line leading from head -> torso -> pelvis -> legs has reflections and it seems odd to not have them on the legs.

All that said, I'm now probably going to find out that I'm completely wrong about the setup :) , and as such am even more curious about the shot.

Nice picture. I like the subject with its contrast between the white light and the dark sculpture. I am however somewhat harsh in my notation because I wonder if the sculptor is not more responsible of the beauty of this picture than the photographer.

It looks like one of those freaky lamps leftover from the 60's and 70's you can find in some soho antique stores. Right next to the chairs that look like hands. Great exposure you captured a lot of detail. I guess using digital you were able to see your results right away and compensate.

.......ok I think it's a lamp.....having said that I always get noise real bad using a digicam on slow shutter speed for dark backgrounds, so I'm totally lost........if you would like to give me tips for using still digicams then feel free.....

This photo is totally original and visually interesting. I think the other comments on it are great- some thinking it's a lamp and others a live model holding something. When I saw it in thumbnail size, I thought the model was holding a hula hoop and was being back lit, with the body blocking the light source. Upon closer inspection, There is definitely some type of diffusing material on the hoop, but the bottom of the hoop is between the model's legs. I am not sure what it is. If this is just a shot of a unique lamp I will be disappointed. If this idea is totally your own, it is ingenius!

I like this photograph very much. I also like the confusion among the veiwers as to whether is is a live model or a statue. I would have cropped off most of the right side of this photo(viewers left) as it shows nothing but backround and does not add to the picture. This will leave you with a nearly square image with more impact. I rated it 8 and 8 and am impressed with it.
