I like the other better, but without this one it's not clear that he's got wings (in the other) This is, however a well composed image... reminds me of carivaggio.

I'd love to see you take this style that you've obviously been perfecting, and recreate some "old masters" images, either painting or a sculpture.

I prefer this one. Raphael the archangel is more misterious than in the more frontal portrait. I like the hard light and contrast very much (although it's not to angelical).

I notice a lot of digital artifacts. I see this along the edges and even notice it in the black background. I would be curious to know what work was done in photoshop or this is from the camera?

perhaps you could re-direct your question to your last two uploads. It would be more fitting IMO. Why do ANY of us do "this"? I'm sure Verna's reason is just as good as yours and her photo will probably get more positive response. You question or comments don't really "critique" the photo or offer any constructive advice.

As for your photo Verna, except for the focus(?) I like this alot. Ok, so the wings aren't authentic but then just where does one get authentic wings? I haven't tried the yellow pages yet but I'm betting that I'll need to look elsewhere.

The lighting is well done, I also like the pose and mostly the thoughtful expression with the upward gaze. (still wondering about that focus...)

I do not understand the photographer's motivation. That's why I asked the question. I already know what my motivation is. I don't see the relation of other people's positive or negative reactions as the ultimate gauge of value when comparing diverse works of photography (lucky for me).

I still don't see any (reasonable) correlation to the painting that was mentioned in a previous post. I suppose that can be chalked up to personal perceptions and or the fact that some people appear to be living in a different version of reality.

Here is my (constructive) advice: loose the tacky wings because they are not up to the standards of the lighting or your photographic skills. Sober up the model or wait until he gets over his allergies. Figure out a better way to achieve the soft-focus look that you seem to be pursuing. Most of all don't believe everything people tell you, no matter how much it strokes your ego.
