I like the idea of the photo and I like your use of black and white and DOF. For me you could eliminate about 2/3 of the sky and not lose anything. I'd also like to either see more of his face / expression or see what they're looking at.

Thanks for your comments, Philip. I hadn't thought to remove some of the sky but now experimenting a bit with that I think I agree. I would've liked to have been lucky enough to catch what they were looking for (whale watching!) but I don't think I would've been fast enough!
