These are the first good fall colors we have had here in CA this year.

I am sure every where else is well into fall. Please Critique.

Absolutely wonderful with the colors and all. Where I live, we don't have colors like that. It's either green (spring/summer) or brown (dead). No in-between.

I agree that the composition could be a bit stronger. I understand that control of that could have been limited by the distance of the shot. Maybe you could have created an interesting shape, playing the dark versus the light and paying extreme attention to the line that the trees create across the top.

Otherwise a beautiful photograph indeed!

Thanks a lot for commenting, your comments confirm my suspicions. California is a great place for photography but these forest fires have made it difficult to get around and the smoke screws up a lot of photos. While that was not the case with this photo and it does print well thanks for taking the time to comment on this photo.

I don't care for the green at the bottom of the photo. I think cropping it off and leaving just the contrast of the orange against the very dark green background would make for a stronger composition.

Gerry, I believe it's the backlighting that sets this one apart from the ordinary. I also think you've done a fine job isolating (composing) this scene. Good vision! Best, LM.

Wow thanks for your comments and the encouragement it has been so long since Ive seen a comment on this site I was beginning to wonder if anyone still did so.

This is one of my favorite photos and it hasn't received much attention.

I wouldn't argue if I were sent a nice 40x30 print of this image. Sometimes the net and the small image sizes necessary to keep it running work against what are truly fine images. I think I could spend some time looking at this one if it were on my wall at the aforementioned size. Very nice work.
