pnital 36 Posted October 21, 2008 Linda, thanks, Glad you connect to this one David Thanks as well, I appreciate your feedback. Michael, it is never superfluous, as each viewer adds something of his own to the general ( others) commentary of a given work, adding his own interpretation, point of view, and feelings. I see it as part of why we upload photos to share and get members to react to our work.I think that it is our way( not the only one but...) for human communication. Thanks for adding your detailed one! interesting "read" of the mood, that can be taken to very different feelings and impressions,I appreciate it! Shalom vechag sameach. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 22, 2008 You mention "joy" which surprises me. I see the sadness and the mournfulness which Gordon has so nicely expressed but I don't see those kinds of emotions offset by something different, like joy. The palor of the skin, stark against the darkness of the background, is very effective, almost deathlike in itself. The two bands of reflected light are musical and add a nice energy to the photo. The main expression is left a bit of a mystery due to the instrument's blocking the face, which has the effect of forcing my eye down to the dead (?) woman on the ground, her golden hair limp against the cold street. It's almost as if the music is walling her off from the scene and from us, keeping her in a lonely place of grief. I like how long and slender her arms are in this light and composition. They seem very much the arms of a dancer and appropriately displayed. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted October 22, 2008 "what music CAN express in human life, joy, as well as sadness ,or mood, and yes, pathos. " See the title as well. Joy, is one of the feelings music can bring to life, thats what I ment. this one for sure is not joy ! It is lamentation. Threnody ( Gordon's) is a wonderful ( new) word , that depicts the lamentation in this scene, also the music instrument is symbolic for me ,as its sound is a bit like ' crying". Thanks for your nice depicted impression Fred, that corresponds to my feelings photographing it. Link to comment
