beaz 0 Posted October 13, 2008 Regards to your nice composition and your cooperative models. Could balance the brighter sky and mountains with the foreground. Lovely scene. Regards, Jerry Link to comment
malachowski 0 Posted October 13, 2008 you could do something to make the sky look more appeling and... level it ;) Link to comment
travelation 0 Posted October 13, 2008 Thank you all for your comments. Jerry and Oswald, I agree with you that the bright sky due to clouds is not very appealing from a conventional aesthetic viewpoint. I really wish I could have taken this photo on another day, or just at another moment of the same day, when the sky was blue. My policy is however to keep post-processing at a minimum and leave the images as shot, trying to keep the atmosphere as I felt it then. Link to comment
momente 0 Posted October 13, 2008 Balanced and pastoral shot, indeed - a good opportunity, well grasped. As for the blown highlights.. I don't think that fixing them would ruin the mood. On the contrary, your eye has a better dynamic range than the camera-sensor, so I wouldn't stick to such a conservatory approach to post-processing, especially in this case. Link to comment
travelation 0 Posted October 16, 2008 Thank you, Dinu, for your critique and your efforts to improve the sky. My previous comment must have been written by the purist in me :-) I certainly do use some post-processing to fix/enhance the mood as I feel it should be, whenever I consider it worthwhile and if time allows. That is probably more a pragmatic than a conservative approach. In fact, these days, it seems rather revolutionary to me to refrain from using photoshop and the like. As for this photo, the sky in your version surely is better, yes, but I would not say it is a significant improvement. Link to comment
