Good eyes... what more can I say? Especially in photo like this where the difference between something ordinary and something extraordinary is a tenth of a second and well, I'd love to know what. I love it.

I'm really getting sick of seeing your photos on the front page of photo.net. I go to the home page today to check out the forum posts and there to the right of POW is an interesting B&W shot of some fellas kicking it, looking like they are out of a James Dean film. Cool shot, I think, I should see who shot this one and maybe post a rating. Maybe chat him up a bit. And BAM! It's this Tony guy again! Who does he think he is? He takes good nature shots, takes good portrait shots AND good streets shots?!? Get outta here! Go away! I used to think I was pretty good. Now I'm going to go sulk and shred some of my negatives. I suck.

Rich is right! We all suck! Great Tony you have terrific reflexes and an eye for great composition. I liked all your street scenes. Kudos!

I have to agree with Rich, you Boll!#%!...I can't believe how good your photos are. I love your landscape colors, and I particularly love your people shots/compositions. Doesn't matter where, when, what camera..just lovely compositions, tonality and great moments caught. I too am digging H.C.B. but Jaysus why bother :)

BTW did you like shooting the Leica? I'm using a Fe2 and the loudness hasn't been a problem yet,I'm just trying to figure out how to get the shots.

No way ... a 27-year old photo. I gotta hand it to you. Most of us are moving to digital, mucking about with PhotoShop, and you show us that the tried-and-true methods are still the best way to make a good photo.

Great subject matter, caught at just the right moment. Great technique, with everything that NEEDS to be in focus clear and sharp, and the background is out-of-focus so as not to distract the viewer.

There's a real sense of timelessness in this shot. It's great. It rocks. I think I'll join the others and trash my old negatives.

I gave it 8/aethetics and 8/originality. There're qualities in this photo I would have rated higher, but unfortunately, the system is too restricted.

The best stuff on photo net. Your whole H.C.B. folder is great. You have that special "eye" to capture a wonderful moment that most of us would just walk by.

You need your own website to showcase your work.

Congratulations Tony on winning the Photo Contest.

Somebody above said the picture was staged. If it is staged we should then appreciate Tony not only for his photography skills but also for being a great Director. Amazing that the photographer got such a control on five guys and still appear the scene look relaxed.

A brief reply to the slightly cynical. No, this pic wasn't staged. Another few seconds and it might have been.

When you stumble upon five guys like these, out for a good time with no money but lots of spirit (and that guitar) you try and catch them unawares. Unfortunately they spotted me and began arranging themselves in their preferred poses. I managed to get the camera focused before that happened. I had probably also checked that the film was wound on, so I was ready before they were. James Dean on the left hadn't yet got his cigarette alight, the rest were just settling in...as I said, another few seconds and they WOULD have staged it just they way they liked, but I was lucky and fumbled the lens into focus just in time. I seem to remember one of them saying, "When're you going to take the picture". They were quite disappointed when I told them I already had.

I'd love to publish this picture one day in an Auckland newspaper and see if anyone recognises them. Where are they now? Are they OK? I've often wondered...

I gotta say this is my favorite photo on photo.net. It's classic, everything from the gestures, to the minute subtle details like the canterbury arcade banner that seems to frame the shot. I think it should be scored higher, there's not enough appreciation here for street/people photography.

Tony I always see this under technical details: "no image manipulation except..."

why manipulate at all?I'd like to see more of your stuff that was untouched by photoshop.

...and who says the camera doesn't capture your soul ?...Tony, you are an yet another asset to Australia. Your work inspires me in genres I had only passing interest in before.

So Tony won the Adobe contest. Bloody well deserved it, mate...

Regardless the danger of suspicion I'm trying to invade Mr. Dummet's rectum, I'll say: I'm a big fan of his, not only of his great photography, but also of the good-humoured (though a bit too highbrow) comments on other photographs and photographers, including the skilled thrashing of those who deserved it. The fact that a superlatively fine photographer, who also happens to be a good fellow happened to win the contest is a genuine pleasure to me - my most sincere congratulations.

Now, when I remember that the idea of participating myself has crossed my mind as I saw the announcement... Ridiculous, eh?

Tony, if I may ask... The main prize was a copy of Photoshop, so what are the Adobe blokes up to now, assuming you probably have that one - refund? Or just shove over another software pack and let you worry about finding any use for it...

Tony, I can't comment about the identity of the guys. But you may be interested to hear that Canterbury Arcade is still alive and well.
