I hate Titling photographs... especially when it's just a portrait.

Hi Chris, I like the crop, tight is often good and I like this. Bright side exposure is good but the deep shadow over your left eye really doesn't help. Would be ok if all of your left side was dark but its onlt the eye and it looks wrong to me.

oooh... you're right. since I'm the model ;) I'll try it again. Still dark, but not such a strong "nose shadow"

 

I actually like the lighting/modeling on the right side (my left) outside of that shadow, but something wasn't right. Now I see it ;)

...but the world would be a dull place if everyone liked the same thing. If on the other hand, the tight crop does or doesn't do something objectively, as opposed to subjectively, then I'd love to hear it. Thanks for your critique.
