mg 0 Posted October 17, 2008 Thanks, Walter. I really liked this image very much. It felt "photoshoppy" from the start, but I didn't really bother, because I thought this "image d'epinal" was sort of fun. Some sort of great humoristic and tender caricature of the old man and dog cliché. I happen to like clichés - especially when they are revisited as brilliantly as this ! And so I felt very strongly for this picture - and I still do... But Walter did a great job here: I hadn't noticed this transparency at all. And now that he has told us about this finding, honestly, I have to say I feel a bit disappointed. Not because this has been photoshopped, but just because I feel these background lines going through the dog shouldn't be visible - imho. I consider these lines are about the same as an ace falling from the magician's sleeve while he's doing his trick. I still like this picture but to me it has now lost its "perfection" in terms of aesthetics. All else was so overly, almost exagerately well composed, that it made me smile as soon as I saw this picture... But then, an ace fell on the floor... Link to comment
twmeyer 0 Posted October 17, 2008 It's still a effective work for me (I want a dog like that). I'm willing to continue the suspension of mydisbelief, despite this technical (not aesthetic) issue, because I still want a dog like that (I think it's RatTerrier)... t Link to comment
kristina_kraft 0 Posted October 17, 2008 Will, I know it's about montage. The way that artist created heavy rain is simply great. I didn't know that dog can behave like a cat sitting on ones shoulders. That's captured my attention. Tom, what this dog means to you? Link to comment
twmeyer 0 Posted October 17, 2008 love, trust, loyalty, companionship... all that dog stuff. I have a little dog now that is a has all theseattributes, but she doesn't really like the rain. But she has different skills (taught me how to play ball) andis the best dog I have ever lived with. This image illustrates a bond that is strong enough to weather hardtimes, without recrimination. I want a "dog" like that. And when I say "dog", that's an iconic representation ofthe highest order of friendship, simpler than and exceeding even the bonds that are possible between humans. There is a capacity for forgiveness in dogs that is very rare among human beings... t Link to comment
kristina_kraft 0 Posted October 17, 2008 Tom,I suppose you have a puppy. Which breed do you have? If I may ask. I also prefer dogs of the same reason - companionship on the first place, trust and love. Link to comment

greg neils 0 Posted October 20, 2008 Peter Mead, well said. If this photo had a post processed aged look instead of the light rain, I would feel partof the it. An aged man, fading out with his close friend. With the rain effect, we feel fooled after we realizethat he part we liked the most, wasn't real. Link to comment
DavidRabinowitz 8 Posted October 30, 2008 i see post-processing as combining elements to render concepts in the artists mind...it's an image, perhaps not what a purist would consider photography but this site generally does not require a distinction...it always nice to hear from the artist though...be aware that at least in the past, the POW was chosen without the artists knowledge...for all we know the artist may not know his image has been chosen..I enjoyed viewing this piece and would like to know more about how the image was created.. giedlius 0 Posted November 11, 2008 Hello everybody. This image is manipulated of course. Man with the dog on his shoulder was photographed and the rain effect was made in photoshop. It was a rainy day, but the rain was not strong so I thought it would look better if rain effect would be stronger. So I made effect stronger in photoshop. So if you want to know anything else on how it was made or smth, please emaile me. My email katashunis@gmail.com Thanks everybody for your opinions. Link to comment

juan carlos rivera 0 Posted December 4, 2008 I really enjoy this photo. There are a lot of elements but all of them are very well-balanced into a interesting perspective. The use of colour is very good, too. Sincere congrats. 7/7 Link to comment

dds701 0 Posted January 13, 2009 Impressive image, attention getter, tho a composite, and of course with Photshop, Lightroom etc manipulations are made with the idea of improving an image. Compliments to Giedrius. A strong desire rests within me to do great images (does that make me a purist?) to start with and little to no Photoshopping if you will. I almost always end up cropping or enhancing if only to see if the image can be made better. I feel tho when one goes beyond mere cropping and color corrections to a composite then it should be made know that it is such. Regards, Doug Link to comment
david_b._kilper 0 Posted July 24, 2010 Great photo for so many reasons. There are so many stories being told in this short capture of time. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 4, 2010 Gledrius -Intriuging.. immediately drew me in. The subtle palette interfused with the strong textures assists in creating a desolate mood in this piece. The dogs ears pinned back, the sad look in his eyes coupled with the expression on the man's face, bring true harmony to the overall scene. Absolutely captivating.Best Regards,Catherine Link to comment
