KenPapai 37 Posted October 14, 2008 Technically good to excellent, but what a darned depressing photo. I don't think it works well beyond the way fake trickery of the post-processing technique Link to comment

maria_di_liegro 0 Posted October 15, 2008 This photo is a GREAT example of what the photo of the week was designed for! In addition to what those before me have stated in praise of the photo ... ... thank you, Giedrius, for such a compelling photo. You have managed to communicate strong emotions and mood through this shot and I am impressed by what you have done here. Cheers, Maria Link to comment
twmeyer 0 Posted October 15, 2008 I hope, when I am that old, I have a little dog who so wants to be with me that she will sit on my shoulders as Iwalk in the rain. For such a dog, I would fashion a little coat... t Link to comment
Uhooru 2,207 Posted October 15, 2008 This overused "draganized" (if I'm spelling it right) technique is just getting so overused and tiresome...I think it totally trivializes the image. Link to comment
mealha 0 Posted October 15, 2008 Strong image. An Enki Bilal feel. For me it is as much ilustration as photography. In anyway the original take must be great shot. Link to comment
WJT 627 Posted October 15, 2008 I think the overall idea is fine, and the "Draganization" does not really bother me, but this is such an obviouscomposite and no mention of this has been made. Not that composites are unacceptable, but the artist should atleast indicate that fact. After all, this is a site for photography first (and graphic arts second),no? I say that this is a composite because the dog and old gentleman are quite transparent, with the background imageshowing through them. I do not feel that this transparency adds to the meaning of the image. Regards. Link to comment
marco_p1 0 Posted October 15, 2008 and strog image. Strange also: lots of rain but nothing looks really wet... i am afraid it was added in PP. Ciao Marco Link to comment
silverfox 0 Posted October 15, 2008 Well Walter, you seem to have stopped the comments dead, must admit i didnt notice that. Still a good image. Link to comment
tsypkin 230 Posted October 15, 2008 Whether a composite or not, the dramatic tension and the mood are palpable -- a great photo. Link to comment
fuego azul 0 Posted October 15, 2008 I like the picture very much, I'm just the beginner in photography, so you might not care about my opinion, but i still want to have a say :) I love it, although you can see the fact that you put 2 images together it doesn't distract from the idea and who cares if it's one picture or 2, the more the better - that's my opinion and I love the mood and the colors, I wish I did that :) Link to comment
kristina_kraft 0 Posted October 15, 2008 I like the angle of composition. It talks about subjective camera. The viewer and the old man are intersected. The over all idea is interesting. It reminds me of Naive art where the main theme is life in country side, in villages. The tones are beautifully arranged. Specially I like this haze that is often created during the heavy rain.7/7. will king 0 Posted October 15, 2008 " Specially I like this haze that is often created during the heavy rain. " You do realize that this is Photoshop rain and not actual rain, right? Not to disrespect the artist or this image, but don't be fooled. This is a created image and not a captured exposure. Nothing wrong with that and I will add that I like it. I do agree with Walter though. The artist should consider being a bit more forthright with how this was created, especially since there are people lead to believe that this is all real. KenPapai 37 Posted October 15, 2008 I have to say this again -- this is not "a" photo by any means. It's a composition of images; a piece of art, an illustration, not a photo though despite the excellent technical skills employed by the image owner. Link to comment
blowingsky 0 Posted October 15, 2008 My first reaction was that it was an image with strong enough elements that it didn't need all the obvious manipulation it was given. Then I noticed the compositing and realized the manipulations were done probably to blend everything in. A good job and it seems to have worked for a lot of viewers. Since it was a more specifically "created" image than one come upon, I looked for what the photographer wanted to tell me. But I couldn't see it. The image has a mood, but no story. I say this because there is no real motion, past, present or to come. The environment supports a kind of mood but no real clue as to circumstance excpet a general impoverishment associated with age. Aged faces prompt us to make up a story. Because he is old and poor, his only friend is a small dog who isn't looking too happy about it. It's an interesting image, but giving it a bit more of a narrative value would have pushed it into another league. Link to comment
WJT 627 Posted October 15, 2008 Will, thanks for bringing that to the table; that is exactly why I commented on this image in the manner that I did. It is an engaging and entertaining image. I like it. But people need to realize that most of this was accomplished "out-of-camera". And it does make a difference, Olga, because many do not consider it ethical to fool people on such a scale. All the artist needed to do was mention that this was a composite image...but he forgot to do that. Yup, got'a admit, I like that pooch too, Tom! Regards. Link to comment
davidmorrow 0 Posted October 16, 2008 I think it should be noted that when posting a photograph here there is a box to be checked for unmanipulated work or checked for work that has been manipulated. (see below) According to the info for this pic under details Giedrius Neturiauskas did not check the box thus indicating it was manipulated. ___ This image is unmanipulated. (Before checking this box please read and understand this page.) Link to comment
pisq 0 Posted October 16, 2008 The degree and extent to which it is manipulated does not distract form the "photography" of the image. The setting was photographed and the dog on the shoulder of a man was photographed. The combination of the two adds dramatic effect, and tells the story of the (a more moody, and dark) human condition, Link to comment
hataiiia 0 Posted October 16, 2008 What a great image! Stunning work - whether Photoshop or not.To place a dog on this man's shoulder, instead of the typically expected cat, in combination with the man's face and the pouring rain amplifies the rain and breaks all the gauges! Link to comment
hataiiia 0 Posted October 16, 2008 and the clothing line lit by the ambient light in the midst of this abandonment, yet being passed by this man with the cat-dog is just as attention grabbing! What an eloquent photo! Bravo! Link to comment
fernando monreal 0 Posted October 16, 2008 For me it is miles away to be considered has Art, I think people overvalue this work, it is not a bad image but ART is another question. f. Link to comment
