From a pleasant, but bitterly cold, late June morning on Hurricane

Ridge high above Port Angeles. All paths and roads past the visitors'

centre were still under several feet of snow. But, the view made up

for the reduced options for exploring. All comments welcome. Thanks.

Looks like you were up early too Ian catching both the sunrise, and moon set. Nicely exposed. Looks like spectacular view. I'll have to keep this place in mind the next time I'm out that way.

Thanks for sharing,

Neil

Beautiful. The slope of the hill in the foreground, the swirling motion of the the semicircular line set up by the foreground against the mountains, the great blue light of the mountain crevices are all extremely sensual elements nicely balanced by the more dazzling bit of testosterone added by the brightly snowcapped peaks. The warmth of the sky is a nice capper. My guess is that, on your print, the moon works well, but on my monitor, and with the PN compression even at the larger size, the moon is looking very sharp and digital. Other than that, this is a really nice scene, subtle colors and great movement in the composition. Subtle as the colors are, they make a very effective statement about the mood and the feeling of the place. Really nice work.

Thanks Neil. You're right about being up early -- I think this was taken at 5:28 (if I had the clock set correctly at the time).

Fred, thanks for coming by. You've nicely summed up my thoughts about this one too.

As for the moon, I don't know what is going on really. I even used the history brush to undo my web sharpening from the sky areas on this one (a step I don't usually take). My only suggestion is that there was a touch of CA from my lens that showed up on the moon at full size. Maybe reduction and compression have really made that edge extra crisp?

Here's a vertical shot a minute or two later for the interested. It lacks the sweeping flow of the horizontal -- but, the cloud patterns and the colours might actually be prettier.

Twas such a splendid dawn.

I'm really enjoying going thru your folio. I've been to so many places in your shots. My mom was born in Port Angeles. We used to go up and visit relatives there and then go camping in Sol duc Hot Springs in the Olympic National Park. Wish I had been a photographer back then.
