Jack McRitchie 150 Posted September 22, 2008 Lovely, she fits the scene as if she were part of the building. Link to comment
aghinescu 0 Posted September 22, 2008 i Completely agree with Jack and make the same observation here Link to comment
laurent-paul 1 Posted September 22, 2008 Wonderfull lighting, and textures. But I have to disagrea with the previous coments : Personaly I would say that the model fits perfectly into the composition, but thanks the Godess, she seems quite more alive than stone glass and concrete ;-) Link to comment
lrenard 0 Posted September 22, 2008 agree...I must say that the model warm up this composition..;-) so it gives good balance with the background...good one Ton ! Link to comment
oskarpapierz 0 Posted September 22, 2008 Something new from you. Very good as usualy. Interesting and perfect made. Congratulations! Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 23, 2008 The pose works perfectly with the light. The diffuse side lighting wraps around her body accentuating all those lovely curves. The soft and sensuous feeling coming from the model is in such stark contrast to the cold geometry of all those 90 degree angles in the rest of the composition. Even the view beyond the window is entirely straight lines and hard angles. The composition is fascinating the way you have framed the stairwell with the window and the model. I'm not thrilled with the shoes, I always find it a bit disconcerting when nude women wear fancy shoes. Something about her taking off all her clothing and then putting her shoes back on seems odd. Given the locale I could hardly expect her to be wondering around in her bare feet however. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 23, 2008 Perfect nude body, juxtaposed with a decaying building, good light and your usual B/W. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted September 23, 2008 I'm glad you like it because it's a scan of a MF negative that I took about twelve years ago. Gordon, due to the female anatomy hips and pelvis are tilted forward when they wear high heels which makes for a nicer posture and accentuates the female body a bit (or in some cases a lot) more. That's the only reason women wear these shoes because it makes them look more attractive. It's surprising what you pick up along the way ;-) Link to comment
maria_di_liegro 0 Posted September 23, 2008 Oh, and a nice photo too ... :) Yes, Ton, you're right. That's why we wear them. It also makes the calf look sexier, giving more shape to it. The light is very nice on your model. Maria Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 24, 2008 Ton: I think you missed my point. You're going to have to take my word for this, but I have been around for awhile myself and it is not news to me why women wear these shoes. My point was that within the context of this photo the shoes are the only thing which IMO looks out of place. The effect for me is to add an element of fashion which does not seem to fit the overall feel of the shot. I was not suggesting that I do not like high heels on women, quite the contrary. If women are willing to ruin their feet and damage their hips and spine to look sexy that's fine by me. My wife is a podiatrist so I too have picked up a few bits of information over the years :-) Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 24, 2008 This has a cold perfection about it. It's beautifully executed and the lighting on your model is stunning. I think of this as a compelling nude study, the environment and her exaggerated pose adding a layer. To me, the shoes add to her aloofness, her disengagement. Great exposure here to get the outside chimney stack. Interesting that the tree outside looks almost like glass. Looks like you had the makings of a great shadow from the window on the left. Did you do other shots using that? Nice textures and interesting angle. Link to comment
mikulski 0 Posted September 25, 2008 Brilliant photo Ton. The composition is amazingly perfect as well as the light is. Congrats and thank you for sharing. Link to comment
juan-de-santa-anna 0 Posted September 25, 2008 What shoes? I had not even noticed them...We wouldn't want Ton to have to take this lovely woman to the emergency room for removal of glass from her feet? Besides the positive effect of the shoes on her posture...I see your point...but I think a pair of sneakers would be more out of place...I think the shoes go with her hair style quite nice...I want to guess 1980s? Ton...don't you travel with a broom when you go on shoots?? I knew this was film...not an easy exposure...you nailed it! juan Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted September 25, 2008 Maria, I'm married to a woman who seems to collect shoes. She could provide the whole street and still have enough left to hardly notice any were gone ;-) Gordon, you're right. But you know how it is. Long days at work, a sick dog (on the mend now), the usual household chores and finally late at night a visit on PN, actually too tired and looking a bit like Clarence the cross-eyed lion. Btw, years ago I read an article of a rather well known psychologist who explained the obvious attraction that man have for women in high heels. It seems to have something to do with how the ankle looks tied in in those ankle straps. So obviously most of us are fetisjists to a certain extent ;-) Fred, cold perfection. I like that. Yes, I did shoot more photo's here but for me this is the best and so the only one I'll upload. Adam, thanks. Having great light always helps. Juan. thanks. I got chased with a broom once but no. I never take one along. Neither a saw for those trees that ruin my composition sometimes. The film was Delta 100, not the most forgiving film as you know. Actually my mentors all found it to be too clinical for portraits and photo's like this one. But even back than I was as opinionated as I'm now. Since I had been trained in the Zone system by then I knew that if you got it right with Delta 100 the results would be excellent. It's the one film that I really miss for it's tremendous results. leo burkey 0 Posted September 26, 2008 A very nice handling of a tricky lighting situation. I bet you used the Zone system here! LOL Well done, Ton! Link to comment
maria_di_liegro 0 Posted September 27, 2008 Ton, I wholeheartedly understand your wife's shoe collection! That's one of the fun thing about being female. That reminds me: Imelda Marcos from the Phillipines gave 200 pairs of shoes to charity and when she was asked if she would miss them, she said, "Miss them?! I still have 2,200 pairs at home!" Anyway, this is not is not about shoes, but about your very nice photo which has received well-deserved praise. Please continue to give us more good portfolio work! Ciao, Maria Link to comment
myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted October 3, 2008 I כI feel that the DOF shoud have been set for tack sharp focus over the entire scene. Maybe it cannot be done. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted October 4, 2008 thanks Meir. It would have been possible but I don´t think it would have added, quite the contrary in fact. Link to comment
raymondborg 0 Posted October 17, 2009 Very nice work. Great composition and tones. Congrats. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 12, 2010 i think i would prefer it without the shoes, however she is stunning and i like the moodiness to this shot... the stairs make it seem like someone is about to reveal themselves any second.... take care samme Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted September 12, 2010 thanks Samme. I'm not sure if this has to do with the difference between men and women because just like most men I like women wearing high heels ;-))) Link to comment
