...in Normandy? When do you head down to the Pyrenees? Mind you, this looks like a great place to relax, throw off the jet-lag and become atuned to the French country pace of life. You certainly found a nice spot to photograph this lovely little church - there aren't so many where you can find such a perfect reflection. And you say you have five weeks of this...outrageous! Super. Sky, water, grass, all. Beautifully colored. Peacefully and lovingly captured.

... drove yesterday to the Auvergne (we're in Issoire) where we are going to shoot some special places and then on Sunday we go to the Pyrenees for three weeks. Everything is so beautiful here, we are just having such a good time.

 

Jeff, PJ went totally mad her first day with the 5D in a church. Almost 500 shots, used up an 8GB card by mid-afternoon. "You were supposed to make me stop :)" she said. We shot the great Abbaye aux Hommes and Abbaye aux Dames in Caen and saw first hand how medieval vaulting made the leap to Gothic. I'll have pictures of that soon ... can't wait to post something with the titillating title of "Pseudo-sexpartite vaulting with a diaphragm arch". Ah, that Kenneth Conant, he knew how to thrill a bookworm :)

Phenomenal image. Reality and illusion co-existing together to form a balanced and beautiful composition with overlapping layers of heaven and earth. I don't blame PJ.

Well, we start following your( both of you ;-)) Journey to the beautifiul art of human creation! you have started with a BANG! Even sky are cooperating with you.This is a place to relax and breath! ( email on its way to you, I understand you have your laptop....)

Immense perspective depth created with the reflection,excellent spot to stand and admire human work.An image,leaving the viewer relaxed,"a sit back capture",and hopefully expecting the photographer feels the same,with no stress to capture everything in a matter of minutes,but enjoying his visit in places he was long awaiting for.

What an beautiful scene and very impressive reflection in the water. It's one of the very nicest reflections I have seen. This composition is charming, too.

 

You know how much I like your work, Dennis, but this has my attention hung on a few points, IMHO. I feel it's a little lonely on the left side of the church. As I wasn't at the scene, I don't know what you had outside of view on the right side, but it seems it would have been nicer to have filled in some of the space on the left and not cut off the tree on the right.

 

Also, the grass looks oversaturated.

 

In all the times I've responded to your photos, I don't think I've ever found anything I didn't like until I saw this one. I know that the previous posts before me on this have all been positive, but compared to your previous works (which you have spoiled us with), this doesn't quite match that.

... Maria, your critique is spot on, and when I get a chance, I'll pay a bit more attention to this shot. As it was, I am so enamored of the new camera that sometimes I forget to look at the shot. Think it will be fairly easy to work around this and improve; thanks for your suggestions!

Wow, fresh eyes and a new camera; it appears we're in for an amazing run of pictures. This one looks like it's right out of some storybook world.
