Maria, for me the composition, tonal gradations, and overall mood of this image are excellent.

Its weakest aspect is (for me) a sub-optimal color palette.

As Vlad Khodski has suggested, near the top of this thread, I think a black-and-white version might be even more appealing. Have you tried converting this to B&W?

I really like this photo. The lines in the ground, which I gather are either tile or stone pavers, provide nice perspective/ leading lines into the shot. There is also a nice symmetry with the benches flanking the centered tree, and I agree with the comment that the person on the bench balances the lean in the tree. The lighting really presents a somber mood, and I think the rather monotone nature of this shot works well, although I also think that B&W would make the image a little stronger. The empty space overall really makes the scene surreal. It would be interesting to see what the image would look like with less empty space in the foreground below the benches and tree. Nice work, though, and congratulations on the recognition.

Very interesting picture. The tree is nice, the clouds are beautiful, and I like the color too.

However, I dont think the guy feels lonely. He is sitting there waiting for someone to come or something to happen. There is hope for him because the weather looks better, seems like rain will be over soon and who/what he is waiting for is about to come. I wouldn't call it "lonely", instead I would call it "waiting" or "hope"

Excellent Idea. The shift to one side really makes it stand out. The tree as a divider touches into the soul deeply. Just a wonderful work of art.

I like the feeling of depth created by the shadow coming out of the frame, the line created by the tree, benches and person, the water and lastly the land in the background. It is easy to imagine myself standing there.

I really enjoy this shot. The lone figure, apparently just out to enjoy the beautiful weather. The lone tree, trapped as it were in a stone concourse, sharing the melancholy loneliness of a rainy day.

I agree with that making it darker doesn't add to the mood and cropping takes away the vast openness that adds so much to the mood. The empty bench, suggests the real subject of the image, a space for another someone, but no one is there.

I meant to contrast the loneliness of the open space, and the somewhat more cozy feeling of a street in town, and also the comfort and the companionship of a pet.

Usually I will look at an image a few times before i decide what I think of it. This one I like a lot, and the only critique I have to offer is that I feel like the horizon should have been corrected, and I might have pulled a bit of crop in on the sides to pull the focus tighter. Burn the foreground a little and darken the blacks a tiny bit.

I wonder what is that straight yellowish line on the right side of your image?

Did you scan this image, or did you not crop completely.
