If you could have got more of the sky around the castle, it would have been better. As it is, is kind of unbalanced.

It's Wayne... again. With the same shot - again. High-center focus, low-center filler. It works much better for this picture than some of the others and the reason for that is you have a greater scope. There's more to look at, and the image isn't entirely symmetric. Plant life and the wall on the right keep it from being just a tower standing in the middle.

This picture does have an aesthetic quality to it - BUT: you still took the same picture with a different subject. Higher points this time around because the style works for the subject and scope, but... try something else.

It's Jeff again, with the same words again - BUT with a little more substance this time. It's good to see that my view of the world has quite an effect.

I rated based on photos given to me from the website by the "Rate selected recent photos" link. Just happened to be a series of yours :)

They're open for critique, and so I gave them that. Now, take it with this in mind: those were the ones that came up. Based on looking through your other folders, you can take great pictures. These just didn't seem to be it.

Don't worry, once I scan my B&W collection up you can totally ream me out as well.

That'd be tough to get more sky while keeping the castle from tilting backwards from the keystoning of the lens, I'd have cropped the very bottom bush out and leave the lawn leading up to the castle, and...I've been to that castle! a LONG time ago, I just wish I had taken more photos and that it was as nice a day as you had, mine was overcast and raining, not too handy!

Thanks for your critique Gary, and for reminding me of Edinburgh. I should really get around to scanning and posting some more of my 2000 trip to Scotland. One chap saw my photos from Bath and wanted to visit the city, since it's close so close to where he lives. Cool.
