All comments are welcome. This is looking across the Alvord desert to

the east. There were huge namds of clouds, VERY high winds, and drifts

of rain tracing their paths across the playa. I was lucky to catch

this fleeting rainbow.

minimalistic and well working capture. The desiccated foreground (nice texture, by the way) gives a nice contrast to the rainpromising clouds and rainbow. The dramtic clouds illustrate the cavitiy of the desert.

Phil, thank you. I appreciate what you're saying and agree whole heatedly to a point. I wasn't lucky to have had my camera ready expecting something great due to how amazing the clouds were, I wasn't lucky to know how to pick and use grad filter, I wasn't lucky to know how to find a pleasing composition on the fly, and I wasn't simply lucky to know what I wanted to achieve when I developed the RAW file. All of that was experience.

But, I was lucky to have such great, active weather for the 2 hours I spent be on the Alvord playa. I won't be back for some time (I live in Toronto, Ontario. This is Eastern Oregon). I had never been before. I only stayed 2 hours. I got several great photos thanks to interesting weather (including two rainbow shots). That is a lot of luck.

Stephen, thank you very much.

Steffen, thanks. I too liked how nicely the clouds played up the expansiveness of the desert. Their complexity showing the bareness of the plain. The duality between the rain clouds and the parched earth is nice bonus too.

Gianluigi, thank you as well.
