cmouli 0 Posted August 28, 2008 Composition taken near the small town of Sekiu, north of the Olympic Peninsula - in the strait of Juan de Fuca. It was a very windy and cloudy day when I returned back after hiking in the northwestern-most corner of the mainland United States - Cape Flattery. Clouds were rolling in fast from the west and I almost lost hope of any visibility as thick fog rolled in. I setup my tripod and waited - and it was almost magical when the fog rolled out as quickly as it rolled in and for a brief moment the western sky cracked open just enough light to fill the sky in all its colorful glory! A lone sea stack appeared in the distance just barely enough for me to frame few shots. Minutes later, dense fog covered the scene and it was dark all over again! comments welcome. Link to comment
lalit 0 Posted August 29, 2008 It is a very beautiful shot and very colorful, with pink and purple covering the water surface. Well placed composition. Immediately gives sense of the place and the mood at time of taking picture. It is exposed very well for the sun and also for the foliage in the foreground. I will look for more such beautiful shots in future. Link to comment
cmouli 0 Posted August 29, 2008 Lalit, thanks for the comment. I must have explained a bit more regarding some technical details for this shot. I used a 2-stop GND filter - to get proper exposure of the green bushes in the foreground. Wind was blowing from the west and I could not use too long exposure - I experimented three frames but had to be very quick to get the light since it was fast disappearing. The large LCD display and quick display zoom capability in D300 was extremely helpful. There was a sad aspect as well - this location was a close to the road leading to Cape Flattery. Very scenic road - but it had trash all over the edges of the road. I had to position my camera above the trash [plastics, styrofoam..:-( ] I was standing over so that it didnt appear in the frame! I only wish travelers are more careful and gentle particularly in these precious and sensitive environments. Link to comment
