Carsten,It is a jewish nuances.... but I'm glad you liked it and even learned something....;-))

Roger, I upload the color version for you , even though I think the B/W is more expressing the moment.

Delightfully relaxing and laid back. The range of tones is great and I think that there should be more moments like this in life.

Just making sure here. I hope you don't think I was in any way questioning that you find this delightful. I wanted only to point out the extreme differences in reaction to the photo, from feeling sorry for what was assumed to be a homeless person to your sense of delight. I certainly don't think either is right or wrong. Just noting the range of emotional responses.

It's not that I find his situation to be delightful. It's what Pnina presents with all the elements that I find to be delightful--- wonderful, interesting Israeli art. You read my comment correctly, that he's not locked into a definitive role, but a comparison immediately came to mind because of the reasons I stated above except --- not to see that tallit katan worn oppressively (you know my thoughts on that from the email I sent you)-- the casual way he wears it feels nice, natural, not "put on."

Daily, you are my surprise of the day.....

Adan, thanks for expressing your point of view.

Donna and Fred, I don't see that my intervention is needed here....;-))

Both version are well done, but the B/W version suits this bettter IMO... Exposure , composition and tones don't get much better than this.

Pnina, There is a classic look to this one which validates your decision to convert to B&W. For people photos B&W is my favourite medium. I like it much more than your colour version, though that's nice too. I applaud your ability to get shots like this as most, myself included, find themselves too nervous to do this often. A beautiful environmental portrait. Looks like he's reaching for another refil. :-) The story here is clear; the man has good taste in beer! Best, LM.

Len It took me a long time to answer... Sorry. Thanks for your interesting evaluation. I was touched by his old age, and the way he was sleeping in a very noisy environment. as well as compatible to his religious appearance.. I did not disturb him.

Art, I answer you here as I think it is more compatible. The old age is the subject which was my reason of photographing him, and his religious clothe( a praying shawl) that was compatible to the religious items sold in the store behind him ( BG) .

I also photographed in the same session another photo that dealt with old age( observation) . Most times you photo in the street without asking the people, it is a street a public domain.

My problem is more about the homeless because, of what Don well explained the deterioration of human life to the streets with no shelter. Old age is a natural process of human life, touching as it is .

Thank you Pnina, I think this is a very thought provoking image. In my book, when a photographer can achieve that, they are truly gifted, beyond the world of creativity or artistic expression. I congratulate you
