Is this an effective image?

I call it "Peace Behind Bars." I went back to my haunt at the 17th

century church and took this image, though I'm assuming the peace

sign wasn't added until a few centuries later. :) Comments/ratings

please! Thank youuuuu. :)

I love those old churches with their iron gates and pointed bars. I like the "downshot". It works well with the illumination of the bars (and the direction of it as well)

Not to be overly philosophical but I think there's a real strong message here between this built peace sign out of stones (bricks?) and the strong contast of these sharp shadows (the thought "pitchfork" comes to mind.

Church, peace, pitchfork...hmm

Good work.

This is a strong photo, Laura! With a nicely clear and simple idea behind it. The graphic nature of lines, shapes and forms (I didn't know churches had peace symbols too) adds a lot. The fence spikes feel like raised spears, war advancing towards peace. Dark to light. Well seen this!

At first I thought the orientation of the fence shadow lacking, because of the blackness in the top-left corner. However it's well balanced by the top right. And the direction of the bricks is perfect. I'm not sure, just wondering what different shapes of shadow would do.

Thanks for your comment. Cheers,

My next favorite after "Pensive Laura." It is a testatment to a maturity beyond your years that you understand the irony of the shadow this iron gate casts across the peace sign. Your simple image speaks volumes. Magnificent work.

Good picture. Looking at the other comments I notice that everyone has just a little different interpretation of the picture. This, I think, is is what make a really good lasting image. We all see sort of the same thing but with a bit of a twist to it. Keep this one around. It will last.

I think the highly contrast is the best process in this picture. It make a strong argument.
